Welcome to half day Kindergarten!
PLEASE remember we are a PEANUT/TREE NUT FREE classroom!
March was a very busy month in room 406! In science we learned about our 5 Senses by using our hands to feel objects hidden in socks and guessing what it was, using our eyes to look through magnifying glasses, binoculors, and colored lenses, using our ears to hear different sounds we hear everyday on a CD and matching sounds such as beans, rice and bells hidden in containers, and we used our noses to smell things such as pickles, coffee and onions
not a favorite of anyone! As we do have allergies, we did not do any tasting.
During Math we counted the letters in our names, graphed them and compared them to others (whose name is shorter, longer, the same). We grabbed a handful of cubes, counted them and colored in the appropriate number of squares and then cut them out and graphed them from least to most, we measured things that were shorter than us, the same height as us and taller than us. We also just began our unit on shapes. I encourage you to go on a shapes hunt at home!
For language arts we learned the word families ay (day, say, pay, way)am (ham, Sam, Pam) , at (bat, hat, mat), ake(bake, snake, cake), and an (fan, man, can). We continued to work on hearing sounds in the beginning and end of words, learning number words, and have begun learning vowel sounds (hearing sounds in the middle of words). We have also introduced the letters up to Y! Only one letter left! Yay Kindergarteners!!
I thoroughly enjoyed having all the mystery readers visit our classroom. It was very exciting to try and guess who was coming in each day and I really appreciate you being able to take the time to visit with us. The children loved it!
